Artist Bio
Izaskun Palacio was born in1964 in a small fishing village in The Basque Country of Northern Spain. Her early life was filled with music and tradition and she grew up listening to many types of music including that of her great uncle, the late composer of renown, Francisco Escudero. She attended the Bilbao Conservatory of Music. She composes and sings in both Spanish and Euskera, her native language.
Izaskun (her name means “Star in the hand”) was greatly influenced by The Beatles but she states that her songs clearly reflect her feelings and her lifestyle. She writes and sings about injustice, about love, for equality among people and for those who suffer unnecessarily. She offers her ‘grain of sand’ in the form of songs to reach the hearts and minds of her audience believing strongly that each individual can make a change in the world by doing even the smallest thing.
She has collaborated with diverse musicians including fellow Basque, Willie Endaya, Spanish Guitarist, Alex Blasco, pianist, Carlos Velasco, Welsh Trombonists Phillip Doddridge and Andrew Ford and Polish Saxophonist, Andrzej Olejniczak and many more musicians. She has recorded many CD’s for the Basque National School System to accompany their text books and also composes and performs spots for TV. She practices her career as a Music Therapist serving both adults and children in Bilbao.
The artist says: I sing for peace, for people who live in bad conditions, for children too, how I can, just good feelings. I have a honor placement in "SONG OF THE YEAR 2011 CONTEST" (USA). Semifinalist in "SONG OF THE YEAR 2012 CONTEST".
One love.
