Katy Burgess is an accomplished singer and musician currently located in Cardiff, but performing all over the UK. Katy has performed as a session vocalist both live and in the studio, layering vocal harmonies with ease. After numerous years working with a diverse range of musicians and vocalists, Katy has developed a professional attitude towards singing and performing, and an ability to connect with different styles and singing techniques.
Katy’s passion for music began from an early age, when she learnt piano. From the musical knowledge gained during this time, Katy progressed to teaching herself acoustic and electric guitar, mandolin, and harmonica. However, Katy’s main passion is singing. She started performing as a vocalist and songwriter at the age of 16, in a Derby based rock band. Since then, she has performed as a solo artist, as part of originals and covers bands, and as a session vocalist. Katy’s passion for music spans over numerous genres, but she loves nothing more than to belt out a rock or soul number.
For instance, Katy has performed with UK rock band Thunder at their traditional Christmas show 2011. The Thunder boys were delighted with how quickly she picked up their music. Chris Childs of Thunder called her a “consummate professional”. He also stated that Katy was “a joy to work with, having a natural understanding of harmony and structure”. Katy has also performed as a backing vocalist with The Union on their two most recent albums - Siren’s Song and The World is Yours. “Our major find during the recording of this album was a great backing vocal team in Helena May Harrison and Katy Burgess. We wanted to get Humble Pie/Rolling Stones kind of feel to their vocal interaction with Pete and they didn’t disappoint!” – Luke Morley, The Union.
