Artist Bio

Liah Alonso is a multi-cultural indie-pop songwriter/guitarist with an adventurous spirit, a knack for languages and a passion for bringing people together through music. As a founding member of the band, “Left On Red”, Liah spent four years touring and recording multiple albums, collaborating and sharing the stage with producers and artists like Tom Morello (Rage Against The Machine) and Jackson Browne.

Today she is the creator and host of “Around the World in 80 Songs”, a web series that chronicles the adventures of Liah as she travels to cities all over the world. In each city, Liah and the viewer get to experience firsthand the local music and culture. Liah immerses herself in the local music scene and life on the streets in each of these vibrant and diverse locations. The series documents the challenge that she faces: to put together a band and record a song in the local style and native language of each city. Liah achieves this without the benefit of any pre-existing contacts or knowledge of the language. To date, she has collaborated in Spanish, Portuguese, French, Polish, Hindi and Pigeon and has proven through her success that great music is the universal language and bridges all cultural, communication and socio-economic gaps.

This unique skill was undoubtedly cultivated by her unusual upbringing and wondrous life experiences. Born in Northern California to a Mexi-Jewish mom and a Spanish father, Liah existed in multiple worlds and cultures from an early age. As a child she performed in musical theater productions and created songs to entertain her friends. She later attended NYU on a scholarship in Media Ecology while working as an interpreter in New York prisons and half-way houses. After graduating, she chose to fully devote herself to music and spent years putting her fancy college degree to use as a subway musician.

Liah Alonso wields her guitar wherever she goes and lights up the room with her smile. She lives through her music and thrives on creating songs and joy with everyone she meets. A master improviser with a limitless well of influences, Liah is instantly welcome in any situation, spinning memorable lyrics and catchy spontaneous melodies with her special brand of twisted loveliness. You never know what you will get when Liah is working her magic, but you know that it will be filled with love and joy and an unquenchable zest for living, and that you will have no choice but to smile and experience the moment with her.
