Artist Bio
Derik is a singer, songwriter, and producer, who spent four years as the Lead Guitarist on the FOX television show "Glee." His singing voice has been heard on FOX's "Raising Hope" and "New Girl," CBS’s “How I Met Your Mother,” NBC’s “Go On” and “The Voice,” and his original music has been featured on the WB hit TV series "Felicity," as well as the feature film “Commencement.”
Derik has recently teamed up with his siblings Riana & Dalten to form "Derik Nelson & Family." The singing sibling trio has performed across Washington, Oregon, California, Kansas, and Iowa, and recently sang The National Anthem at a Seattle Seahawks NFL game.
They've signed with the largest booking agency in the country, and will be touring nationwide in 2017 and 2018 with their own headlining show at Performing Arts Centers.
As a solo performer, Derik has had the honor of sharing the stage with a variety of musical greats, including Mary J. Blige, Dionne Warwick, American Idol finalist Jessica Sanchez, Lupe Fiasco with Guy Sebastian, and many more.
Derik's TAKE CHANCES TOUR in 2013 and 2014 raised money for high school arts & music programs. His team and innovative inspirational assemblies and high-powered concerts reached 10,000 students and positively impacted 40 communities in Washington, Oregon and California. "Take Chances" -- the theme of the tour-- is an original song the USC President's Office commissioned Derik to write as the graduation anthem for the Class of 2011.
Derik graduated from the University of Southern California with a Bachelor of Science degree in Music Industry, and has written, produced, and recorded six full-length albums to his name, two of which were completed before graduating from high school. During his time at USC, Derik worked extensively with the Thornton School of Music faculty and was an integral part of shaping the curriculum that later became the new Popular Music program, the first program of its kind in the country where a degree in popular music at a major university is possible. In 2008, Derik was awarded the Brian Wilson Music Scholarship for songwriting. His channel on YouTube has garnered 2.5 million views.
In addition to writing, performing, and managing both a solo career and a band, Derik also works as a producer and recording engineer for other artists and musicians, including Rozzi Crane (the first artist to be signed to Adam Levine of MAROON 5's new record label, 222 Records), Christine Donaldson, Aaron Childs, and Raquel Rodriguez.
